Performance, Relationships and Football
Presenting Concern
A young footballer sought support following a noticeable decline in performance and increasing anxiety about losing his place in the team.
What We Explored
Although the difficulties initially appeared to be football-related, our work revealed that relationship issues outside of sport were having a significant impact on his concentration, confidence and emotional wellbeing. Therapy provided space to explore these difficulties, reflect on important decisions within the relationship and understand how personal challenges were affecting life on and off the pitch.
Outcome
As these issues became clearer and were addressed, the client's confidence and performances gradually improved. He also developed a greater awareness of recurring patterns in relationships and became more thoughtful about the qualities he valued in future partners.
